WHAT: The WROAR Ride is an all women's motorcycle ride. Our objective is to raise funds for the Toronto Rape Crisis Centre / Multicultural Women Against Rape and to raise awareness about issues of sexual violence facing women in Toronto today.

Honda Canada will have the 2005 motorcycles at the WROAR Ride event, and licensed motorcyclists with appropriate gear will be able to sign up to take a demo ride for a small donation to the WROAR Ride. The women participating in the WROAR Ride will also have a chance to ride the new Honda's too, with early rides schedule for registered WROAR Riders.

We're also really excited about our venue for 2005. The Docks Entertainment Complex has helped us out with a deal on a parking lot in downtown Toronto. The WROAR Ride Event will occupy the parking lot to the north of the Cherry Street Diner, on the west side of Cherry St. south of Lakeshore Blvd. East, just north of Polsun Street. We are really excited about this widely accessible and highly visible downtown location!

The All-Day WROAR Ride event will include exhibitors' displays as well as late afternoon musical entertainment, and the event is open to all. The group ride taking place mid-day is an 'all-women' motorcycle ride, and is open to women motorcyclists and their passengers only. Spectators and supporters are welcome!

The goal of the WROAR Ride is to raise funds for the Toronto Rape Crisis Centre/Multicultural Women Against Rape as well as raise awareness about issues of sexual violence. The image of a woman on her motorcycle conveys an impression of freedom, independence and strength that many women value, even those who don't ride. It provides a startling contrast to the loss of freedom and control associated with sexual violence. We believe the WROAR Ride will promote a positive, powerful image of women in control of our vehicles and our lives.

The Toronto Rape Crisis Centre has a thirty-one year history of providing 24-hour confidential crisis counseling for survivors of sexual violence, as well as educational programs, and other services, supported by the grass roots fundraising efforts of women like the 'WROAR Riders'.

The first WROAR Ride will take place on Sunday June 12, 2005.
