May 2007 Press Release
THE WROAR RIDE
WOMEN RIDE OUT AGAINST RAPE
When? Sunday, June 10, 2007
Where? Honda Canada 715 Milner Ave. Scarborough, Ontario
WROAR is a women's motorcycle ride to raise awareness about violence against women, and to raise funds for the Toronto Rape Crisis Centre/Multicultural Women Against Rape.
The Toronto Rape Crisis Centre has a thirty-three year history of providing 24-hour confidential crisis counseling for survivors of sexual violence, as well as educational programs, and other services, supported by the grass roots fundraising efforts of women like the 'WROAR Riders'. To learn more about the Toronto Rape Crisis Centre / Multicultural Women Against Rape, please visit www.trccmwar.ca
The image of a woman on her motorcycle conveys an impression of freedom, independence and strength that many women value, even those who don't ride. Such an image provides a startling contrast to the loss of control and fear associated with sexual violence.
Now in it's third year the WROAR ride has raised nearly $20,000 for the Toronto Rape Crisis Centre Multicultural Women Against Rape. We would like to double that figure, and we're looking for sponsors to support the event and motorcyclists to participate in the event.
Please mark the date ? June 10 ? in your diary.
